Technology Clarity Report

Your business has grown.
Your systems have not kept up.

Most growing businesses are operating on assumptions about their own technology. We build the complete picture: what you have, what it costs, what is at risk, and what to do about it. Use the findings to act on your own, hire us, or hire anyone else. We work for your clarity, not your dependency.

The Problem

Most growing businesses are operating on assumptions about their own systems.

You have no real inventory of your systems.

You could not tell someone exactly what software you pay for, who has access to what, or where your data actually lives. You are operating on memory, not documentation.

You keep evaluating new tools instead of understanding what you have.

Every quarter there is a new platform, a new recommendation, a new demo. Meanwhile nobody has mapped what you already own or whether it is actually working.

Your technology was supposed to serve the business.

Somewhere along the way it started running the business instead. Decisions get made around what the software allows, rather than what the business needs.

Your vendors are managing you, not the other way around.

You are paying for tools you do not fully use, contracts you have not reviewed in years, and subscriptions nobody remembers authorizing.

Access control is a silent liability.

Former employees may still have active credentials. Admin access is shared. Nobody is certain who controls the domain registration or the billing account.

Your IT provider gives you answers, not clarity.

They respond to tickets. They do not tell you what is actually exposed, why it keeps happening, or what the full picture looks like.

These are not IT problems. They are business risk problems. And they are fixable, once you can see clearly.

Begin Tier 3

All assessments begin with the same structured intake form. Choose your tier before or after completing it.

The Business Source File

One document. Everything your business needs to know about itself.

Most businesses do not have this document. Critical information lives in someone's head, in an email from three years ago, or in a spreadsheet nobody has updated since the last IT person left. When something breaks, when someone leaves, when an auditor asks, you realize how much you did not know about your own systems.

  • Every system and tool: what it does, who owns it, what it costs, when it renews
  • Every vendor and their account contacts
  • Domain registrations, hosting providers, DNS records
  • Access structure: who has what level of access to what
  • Data locations: where your business information actually lives
  • Emergency contacts and escalation paths
  • Key personnel and their system assignments

The Business Source File is built from your assessment responses and delivered as a structured, editable document. It is formatted so your team can maintain it going forward.

It is not a report you read once and file away. It is a living operational document that becomes the single source of truth for your technology environment.

Included with Tier 2 and Tier 3 assessments.

Who We Are

Root Cause Technology

Patrick Sullivan

Lead Technology Consultant

Diagnostic thinking built in the field.

Patrick Sullivan spent 15 years solving problems that others could not diagnose. In the U.S. Army he managed classified satellite communication networks where system failure was not an option. Inside multiple banks and healthcare organizations, he worked on PCI and HIPAA implementation where a single breach carried seven-figure consequences.

Root Cause Technology exists because Patrick kept seeing the same pattern. Businesses that had grown past their systems, operating on assumptions, exposed to risks they had never mapped.

Patrick partners with Elenor Sullivan, Web and Digital Strategist, to deliver a complete picture of how technology, web presence, and operations connect. Together they built an assessment process that gives every business owner what Patrick used to give only to enterprise clients: complete visibility, at a price that does not require a six-figure IT budget.

  • U.S. Army, Communications and IT Security
  • Financial institution IT infrastructure with PCI implementation experience
  • Healthcare IT with HIPAA implementation experience

Common Questions

What you are probably wondering.

What size business is this designed for?

The assessment works for any owner-led business that uses technology to operate. Most of our clients have $1M to $20M in annual revenue and 10 to 75 employees. If you are smaller or larger, the intake form will still generate useful findings. The full Business Control Reset engagement is designed for businesses on the higher end of that range.

Do I have to hire Root Cause Technology after the assessment?

No. The findings are yours. You can implement the recommendations yourself, hand the report to your existing IT provider, or hire someone else entirely. We designed the assessment to be useful regardless of what you do next. If we are the right fit to help, that will be clear from the findings.

What is the Business Source File?

It is a structured living document, built from your assessment responses, that contains everything your business needs to know about its own technology in one place. Every system, vendor, access structure, renewal date, and escalation contact. Included with Tier 2 and Tier 3. Most businesses discover they have never had this document before. Once they do, they cannot imagine not having it.

How long does the intake form take?

About 15 to 20 minutes for most businesses. You do not need to know technical details. We ask questions in plain language and you answer based on what you know. Gaps in your knowledge are part of what the assessment is designed to surface.

What happens in the Tier 3 strategy call?

Patrick reviews your assessment findings before the call. The 30 minutes are focused on your specific situation, walking through the risk findings, answering questions, and giving his honest read on what matters most. It is not a sales call. If Root Cause Technology is the right next step, he will say so. If it is not, he will say that too.

Is this available outside Joliet, Illinois?

Yes. All three assessment tiers are conducted remotely. The full Business Control Reset engagement is also available remotely, with on-site components for complex environments when needed.
